Making a difference in children’s lives through the miracle of adoption?

"He who saves one life, it is as if he has saved the entire world "The Talmud

There is no greater way to make a difference in a child's life than by bringing a child that was not born to you into your heart into your home.  Adoption is a choice on the part of a parent or parents to commit, to love, to nurture and provide for that child for his or her entire life. That to me is the definition of the word adoption and it is one of the most special acts a human being can do for another

It is also as much of a precious gift for the family  as it is for the child.

These wise words from the Torah have inspired me and my family's life in the most miraculous ways. In October of 2002, after two very long journeys halfway across the world, my husband and I adopted our twin daughters from Vladivostok, Russia. It was a journey that began in my heart. You see after my three sons were born, I used to go on the internet every single night and look at pictures of the children in orphanages all over the world that were “waiting” for homes. I could not get their faces out of mind nor could I ignore the feeling inside of me that one of those children was waiting for me.

After realizing that this truly was our destiny, in August 2002, my husband and I began the adoption process. We were truly guided every step of the way in our endeavourer and with the help of Hashem and some very special people, on October 10th, 2002, we were united forever with our precious, beautiful daughters. Marina and Reenie are now almost five years old and their beauty, love, light and incredibly sweet souls have enriched our lives beyond measure.

While in Russia, I was able to visit and spend time in the orphanage where my daughters lived for seven months. I also saw many of the other orphans waiting for homes. My own adoption experience, as well as my awareness of the millions of orphans that are waiting, has inspired me to help other parents make their adoption dreams come true. Consequently, in August of 2006, Debra Burger and I, a close friend and active member of the Palm Beach County Jewish Community, began Heart to Heart, an adoption not for profit organization, the mission of Heart to Heart is to unite children who are waiting for homes, love and a family with parents who are yearning for them.

At Heart to Heart, we presently offer comprehensive adoption programs in the Ukraine and Russia. Our programs include working hand in hand with the family through every step of the adoption process from the initial paperwork, the INS (immigration and Naturalization Service) requirements, dossier compilation, as well as the in country experience. We also pride ourselves on offering these services for the lowest possible cost so that if possible, families can donate whatever amount they choose to our foundation. Our foundation uses its monies to do charitable work, such as providing food, supplies and clothing for the orphans, as well as for helping to do necessary renovations to the orphanages with whom we work.
